Description
The global financial crisis with its tremendous political and social impact has drawn to light how pivotal a role the financial system plays for our everyday life. The current state of globalised finance raises a myriad of ethical and philosophical questions. The course "Ethics and Finance" aims at pondering these questions.
The participants will be provided with a toolbox of moral theories, which shall then be applied on financial markets and products. When it comes to financial products, participants will not only learn about socially responsible investments but also gain understanding of ethical issues associated with those financial instruments that are now deemed to have caused crisis. By taking an ethical point of view, "Ethics and Finance" adds an important dimension to the ongoing debate about the role of the financial system.
Course participants will
| - | be able to approach manifold tasks within the financial services industry from a different perspective. |
| - | learn how applied ethics helps to deal with vexed situations and to find mutually beneficial solutions. |
| - | gain a more comprehensive understanding of critical success factors, such as risk and reputation. |
Contents
| - | Ethical and historical perspective on key concepts of finance such as money, interest and risk. |
| - | Governing financial markets and respective normative assumptions. |
| - | Ethical issues concerning specific market participants, e.g. hedge funds or sovereign wealth funds. |
| - | Strategies of ethical or socially responsible investment (SRI). |
| - | Ethical assessment of topics that came to the fore in the recent financial crisis. |
Target group
This course is designed for all those who work in the financial services industry and wish to learn more about the ethical aspects of the financial sector. Such a deeper understanding can be of particular interest for relationship or product managers, yet the benefits are not limited to any profession.
Credits
Confirmation of participation, paying additional CHF 200.- and adducing activity confirmation 2,5 ECTS credits will be ascribed.
